A double chin can be a troublesome problem that fails to go away even when you lose weight. Fortunately, Kybella® is a new non-surgical, injectable treatment that destroys the fat cells that cause “submental fullness.” The treatment is permanent, since most argue that no new fat cells can form.
Kybella® is made of deoxycholic acid, which naturally occurs in the body. It has been proven safe and effective in numerous studies and is FDA-approved. Dr. Clinton is an expert injector who has a great deal of experience with Kybella®. He is also an empathetic listener who gives all of his patients one-on-one attention.
Kybella® may indirectly improve sagging skin on the lower face or neck. If this is a problem for you, Dr. Clinton can recommend other non-surgical or surgical procedures for you that will provide you more significant results. These include neck liposuction for excessive fat in that area, including the chin. A neck lift addresses a double chin, as well as lax skin, excess fat and skin elsewhere on the neck, and muscle bands. During your examination and consultation, Dr. Clinton will advise if you are a good candidate for Kybella® or if one of these other treatments will bring you the results you seek.
What Happens During Kybella® Injections?
Kybella® requires only a fine needle, so the injections cause minimal discomfort. We will apply an ice pack and/or use a local anesthetic to numb your skin, and the injections will take less than 30 minutes. The treatment may include as many as 50 small injections into the chin area.
In approximately six weeks, you will begin to see the results of the treatment. Some patients may wish to further reduce the double chin. If so, another treatment can be done at that time. Most patients are satisfied after two or three treatments, but some may need up to six every six weeks to achieve optimal results.
What Can I Expect During Recovery from Kybella®?
While Kybella® requires no time away from work, some patients take a few days off during the phase of acute swelling. You may also experience some minor bruising for a few days. If you experience any post-treatment pain, you can take non-prescription medication.
Of course, if you have any questions at all after your treatment, you are encouraged to call our office.
