Abdominoplasty - Tummy Tuck

The abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, procedure removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen and when needed, repositions the abdominal muscles so they may help flatten the appearance. The surgical scar will often incorporate any previous C-section or hysterectomy scar, and can usually be covered by clothing or bathing suits.   Liposuction is often added to enhance the final result.  This procedure is tailored to the patient's needs.  The most frequent candidate is a female who has experienced several pregnancies.

Recovery
Patients should be able to walk and sit immediately after surgery, but cannot do any strenuous activities or heavy lifting for three weeks.  Patients may shower the first day after surgery even with their drains (that are placed during surgery.)  The drains stay 3-5 days after surgery and are removed in the office.  Most people are able to return to work after one or two weeks depending on their job demands.
