Lasers are usually a non-surgical, non-invasive technique designed to achieve many exciting aesthetic results with minimal downtime and without damaging the skin. Lasers can improve a number of issues, such as:
- Uneven pigmentation
- Facial redness and broken blood vessels
- Fine surface lines and wrinkles
- Rough, dull skin
- Sun damage
- Unwanted hair
More than one treatment is often necessary for optimal results, particularly for hair removal and discoloration.
At Clinton Plastic Surgery, we have a variety of advanced laser devices available to treat these problems. Dr. Clinton has used this technology with great success for his patients, and in many cases. has been the first to perform new laser procedures in the Southeast. He provides you with personal attention, listening with empathy to your concerns. Most importantly, he has the training and experience to evaluate your case carefully and create a unique plan to bring you the outcome you want.
He received his plastic surgery training at Duke – one of the country’s most prestigious universities – and he spent years in trauma care before focusing on the field of aesthetics. As a result, he has the experience to work on even the most complex of cases.
Laser Treatments and Devices
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)
Dr. Clinton uses the 540/AFT by Alma Laser for IPL treatments. It improves the appearance of facial redness such as rosacea, broken blood vessels, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage.
Dr. Clinton recommends that patients receive an exfoliating treatment a few days before this light procedure, as well as two weeks after. No recovery time is necessary after IPL, although dark spots may be darker for 10-14 days. You will see results in 4-6 weeks.
Fractionated CO2 Pixel Laser
Another Alma Laser device, the Pixel treatment is excellent for smoothing fine surface lines and wrinkles and improving sun damage. Fractionated lasers promote faster recovery through providing purposeful “skip” areas. Unlike many lasers, Pixel is intended to be a single treatment.
Dr. Clinton recommends that patients use a retinoid until one week prior to their appointment. You may experience some swelling after this treatment for 5-7 days. Smoothing results are apparent in about a week with additional tightening improvement visible within the next 4-6 weeks. Skin care maintenance is especially important. We offer full support and competitive pricing of Obagi skin care systems.
INFINI High Intensity, Focused Radio Frequency (RF) Technology
This treatment smooths sagging skin and wrinkles and improves acne scarring. A topical anesthetic is used to numb the skin, and a device with tiny needles creates micro-injuries in the skin. These injuries stimulate the body to produce more collagen and elastin, which will make the skin smoother and more youthful during the months following the treatment.
Dr. Clinton recommends that patients receive a moisturizing facial about a week after INFINI treatments.
Laser Hair Reduction
Our Soprano laser system is an excellent way to reduce unwanted hair. It is a permanent reduction method of ridding the body of large areas of hair, such as the face, bikini line, stomach, back, chest, underarms, and legs.
Popular with both men and women, the laser works by color-targeting the (melanin) in the hair follicles. For this reason, it does not work on gray or blonde hair. Several treatments are required to eliminate as much hair as possible. Read more about Laser Hair Reduction.
What Can I Expect During Recovery from a Laser Treatment?
One of the advantages of laser treatments is that little to no recovery time is required in most cases. We will send you home with written instructions for how to take care of yourself after your treatment. This will be a reinforcement of verbal instructions that you will receive on several occasions. We encourage you to call us if you have any questions at all.
As mentioned above, you may experience some swelling after laser treatments. In some cases, dark spots may become darker for a week or two, after which they will lighten. If you experience pain, you can take non-prescription oral medications.
Skin care is very important after laser treatments, and we will recommend products that can speed healing. We offer full support and competitive pricing on Obagi skin care systems, which are medical-grade products that nourish your skin with extensively tested and proven ingredients.
Laser treatments can make your skin more vulnerable to the sun, so proper sun protection is imperative when you are outdoors. Tanning is discouraged for a period of time before and after this laser procedure.
